the antidote to your anecdote

Have you noticed everyone saying "anticdote" lately?
"Let me tell you an amusing anticdote about our vacation to Kansas...."

Yeah, sure. I'd love to hear it.

-Although I suppose it is true that many an anecdote does involve antics of one kind or another.

The other thing that's spreading rampantly is 'safety deposit box'. I even heard William Hurt say it twice in the movie Mr. Brooks.
[Actually, four times, since I've seen the movie twice. ;-)]

It isn't "safety deposit box"?

;-) nope! It's 'safe deposit box'... cause they're deposit boxes stored inside a safe.

OR, they are boxes you put valuables in for the sake of safety. :P

My sister pointed out this link: http://merriam-webster.com/dictionary/safe-deposit%20box

I found this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_deposit_box

But regardless, I'm still right! ;-)

...besides, it's Merriam-Webster that also says "orientated" is ok, which we all know is just not true. I think M-W is obligated to list any words used for anything, whether they're correct or not! Such a sad state of affairs. Wait... maybe 'nucular' is there too, lemme check... by god, I was joking, but it IS!

Main Entry: nu·cle·ar
Pronunciation: \ˈnü-klē-ər, ˈnyü-, ÷-kyə-lər\

So there ya go.

...yes, (as my sister pointed out to me) 'orientated' is a real, proper word but can't we just pretend it isn't?! It shouldn't be; it's so awful-sounding! :-)

I was about to say, that "orientate" is a word. . HA!

I would never have taken you for a language conservative. Next time we hang we need to conversate about it. ;)
